Learn more about the Mental Health Equity and Liberation Summit
Given the number of mental health facilities that have closed around the world and the increasing diversity of patients, the need for culturally responsive mental health services is essential to improving care. National research finds that historically disenfranchised and marginalized populations are less likely to have access to mental health services and more likely to receive lower quality care. Growing evidence points to a need for culturally responsive interventions that increase quality and access to mental health services and dismantle stigma that persists in these communities.
The Black Women’s Mental Health Institute hosts the Mental Health Equity and Liberation Summit (formerly the Minority Mental Health Awareness Summit) each year to showcase the unique perspectives of diverse mental health providers, consumers, caregivers and community members. A diverse array of speakers are invited to share their perspectives on culturally responsive care and services.
Who Should Attend
This event focuses on collaborative conversations about improving quality of mental care and dismantling stigma for minority populations. Target audiences include licensed mental health counselors, university students, non-profit professionals, social workers, nurses, educators, consumers (and loved ones), mental health advocates, community health organizers, elected officials, religious leaders and more. CEs are available for counselors, social workers and peer support specialists.
